Curbo ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights as a user of the Curbo platform.

We collect information you provide directly:

Account details: name, email address, and password when you register.

Profile information: username, city, postal code, avatar configuration, and garbage day preference.

Item listings: photos, descriptions, pricing, and location data you submit.

Messages sent between users on the platform.

We also collect information automatically when you use Curbo:

Usage data: pages visited, features used, and actions taken within the app.

Device information: browser type, operating system, and IP address.

Location data: general location inferred from your postal code or city (we do not track GPS location).

2. How We Use Your Information

To provide, operate, and improve the Curbo platform.

To display your item listings on the map and to other users.

To facilitate messages between buyers and sellers.

To send transactional emails (e.g., email confirmation, item updates).

To calculate and display your environmental impact (kg diverted from landfill).

To detect and prevent fraud, spam, and abuse.

To comply with legal obligations.

3. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following circumstances:

Other users: Your public profile (display name, username, city, items posted) is visible to other Curbo users. Your email address is never shown publicly.

Service providers: We use Supabase for database and authentication services, and Vercel for hosting. These providers process data on our behalf under strict agreements.

Analytics: We use Google Analytics to understand how users interact with Curbo. This data is aggregated and anonymized.

Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Curbo or others.

4. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Item listings are retained for record-keeping even after they expire or are removed. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at hello@curbo.app.

5. Cookies

Curbo uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to maintain your session, remember preferences, and measure platform usage via Google Analytics. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some features may not function correctly.

6. Your Rights (PIPEDA)

As a Canadian resident, you have rights under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA):

The right to access the personal information we hold about you.

The right to correct inaccurate information.

The right to withdraw consent and request deletion of your data.

The right to know how your information is being used.

7. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and row-level security on our database. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure — we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.

Curbo is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of Curbo after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
